Polis Chrysochous is a small village in the northwest of the island of Cyprus, about 45 km from Paphos, this area is very popular for renting a Polis holiday villa. The village is still very traditional and it has a charming village square with adjacent cafes, taverns and small shops. Polis has an impressive history dating back 3000 years. There is an archaeological museum with finds from the historic Marion. In addition, a small church, Agios Andronikos, near the village square, with wall paintings from the 16th century and another interesting church of Agia Kyriaki, from the 18th century.
Polis is surrounded by citrus groves, in what some of the holiday villas Polis are hidden in. The area is a flat with the mountains in the background. The sand to pebbly beaches are long and shallow and most time of the year the sea is calm. The town itself has not grown much in the last years and managed to retain its traditional charm. Nevertheless, you will find a good number of taverns, supermarkets and bakeries.
Latchi is the tourist area in the west of Polis, with small hotels, apartments and villas and a beautiful harbor, where you will find some of the Latchi holiday villas. Argaka, Agia Marina, Nea Dimmata and Pomos are in the east, the small towns that gradually grow together, are getting more and more attractive to tourists. The direct coastal region is mainly flat with long beaches and how further you get to the east it becomes more rocky with small coves for swimming and in Pomos one encounters impressive cliffs in turn with small stretches of beach. The area is liked by nature lovers, what do excursions to the mountains and hiking tours.
The Baths of Aphrodite in Akamas: A nice excursion and ideal for a beautiful nature walk. If you have a 4x4 Jeep, you can enter the Akamas Peninsula. On the north coast there are a number of small coves for swimming and snorkeling and at the tip of the peninsula of beach called Fontana Amorosa. As well from Latchi harbor one can make boat trip along the Akamas coast or rent a small boat and stop at the little coves for snorkeling. On the southern coast of the Akamas visiting the Avagas gorge is recommended. Sturdy footwear is advisable.
Hiking: In the Akamas and from Neo Chorio there are a few posted trails, the tourist information offers hiking maps for free.
