Falassarna is located in the far west of Crete and is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. In 2003, the beach of Falassarna was even elected as the third most beautiful beach in Greece. Falassarna is just about 10 km from Kastelli and is certainly worth a visit. Although tourism has fought its way there, there are only a few small hotels and holiday homes, some taverns and cafes. Sun loungers and umbrellas are rented on the beach. Nevertheless, it is still rather quiet and to the beach with its dunes is not overcrowded. The sea on the west coast is more restless and the waves are often higher than in other places of the island, the beach is also popular for paragliding. Those seeking peace and relaxation, are certainly at the right place, you can go for long walks on the beach, enjoy fantastic views and beautiful sunsets. The bay is surrounded by high mountains and on the impressive ride down to the beach you will pass a couple of nicely situated taverns with great views!
Ruins of ancient city Falassarna are located north of the beaches. One can find a stone throne, remains of walls, buildings, tombs and streets.
The surrounding area of Falassarna is dominated by agriculture, mainly with tomato green houses.
