The seaside resort of Almirida has is a nice, sandy beach which is ideal for children. On the beach there are a few shady cafes and taverns. The place is beautiful, surrounded by green lush mountains. In the village there are a good number of restaurants, cafes and bars. In addition, some mini markets. Falassarna is located in the far west of Crete and is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. In 2003, the beach of Falassarna was even elected as the third most beautiful beach in Greece. Falassarna is just about 10 km from Kastelli and is certainly worth a visit. Although tourism has fought its way there, there are only a few small hotels and holiday homes, some taverns and cafes. Plakias is located about 70 km south of Rethymnon, at the bottom of Kouraliotiki gorge. The small town is surrounded by a hilly landscape and offers next to the 1,5 km long main beach, which is shallow and sandy, several smaller bays in the area. The place is still quite natural and not yet overrun by mass tourism. From the once small fishing village with 5 houses it has become a pretty, small resort with a few restaurants, taverns, cafes and supermarkets and some, family-run apartment houses. Panormo is one of the small coastal villages of Crete between Heraklion (63 km) and Rethymnon (21 km). The coast is rocky with beautiful bays, the countryside is mountainous and the village stretches down to the coast and the small harbor. The village is quiet and in the streets  are some good taverns and shops and is ideal for a relaxing family holiday.
